Volunteering at LEAF Center

I volunteer at the LEAF Center, located in the California Nursery Historical Park in Fremont, CA. The LEAF community is focused on making gardening much more approachable and widely available, as well as using it as a tool to help to community. We grow food to donate to the Tri-City Food Bank, rent out planting beds for anyone to use, and put together seedlings for home use. It is entirely volunteer-run.

I have been gardening at home ever since I can remember, but never anything outside of my own backyard. I felt like participating in something impactful, so I began to search for opportunities. The Alameda County Library Board referred me to LEAF and I signed up immediately after reading what they had to say on their website.

Last Thursday, the weather was a mild and pleasant 96 degrees!!! Thus, the volunteers scheduled to be there didn’t stay too long, and by the time I arrived, it was just me alone.
